Wow. It's been a while since I've been able to sit down and blog - and it's been a while since I've had anything to really blog about. It's been pretty quiet...well not really "quiet" I mean, I'm in Italy and I don't know any Italian who even has a "quiet" capability. No, I've just been working a lot and not had anything blog worthy. But that has all changed after our boat party last night.
Come to find out the evening was organized by the English conversation club of Catania - there were people speaking English all around me!! I am the only person in my social circle who speaks English as a first language - so it's a real treat when I can just speak freely without having to think all the time about what i'm saying while translating back and forth from english to italian. I even talked to a guy from Lafayette, GA!! I didn't meet him in person, but his friend (Martina from Virginia - sweet girl) called him and put me on the phone to talk to him. It's so much fun to mingle with complete strangers sometimes.
Then there was Una - she's originally from a town opposite of Liverpool. She is a fiesty English lady - absolutely uncandid, free spirited woman. She shuttered when I told her with my Middle Georgia accent that I was hired to work on pronunciation. She actually stopped in the middle of a story to scold me for pulling up my dress. It's amazing how the English can still sound so polite when they're yelling at you. But, me and Una talked for a long time and she absolutely cracked me up. I will be seeing her again soon on May 1 when she comes to Palermo. We're going to church and tea together. How cool is that?
We ate awesome food. Enjoyed a gorgeous boat. And danced the night away. The night was truly...incredible. A fantastic experience indeed.
