Just Another Sunny Day

It was miraculously sunny today in Palermo. It's amazing how just a little bit of sunlight can brighten ones mood so quickly. I've been feeling rather down lately. Life has a way of doing that to me every now and again. I suppose it's natural, but to me, life can be a big pain in the butt sometimes too.

Like, at the supermarket. I walk in with my mental list ready, I get the handful of things I need and proceed to the counter. OF COURSE there are 15 people waiting to check out and OF COURSE there is only one cash register open. OF COURSE none of the employees do anything about it, and OF COURSE I have to get behind the woman with a full cart who has to keep running back and forth between the cash register and the bottle watered aisle screaming "Cuanto é?? E questo??" (How much is this one?? And that one??) I mean, come one lady. Pick one. They can't be that much different in price...It's bottled water! Then, after we all come to a consensus about what bottled water this lady wants, she has to try and pay with a coupon that doesn't start working until tomorrow, and OF COURSE we have to through a fit about that...All I want is to pay for my 3 things, and go on my merry little way.

But it doesn't work out that way. It never does. There's always some complication. There's always something we don't see coming. Life is unpredictable, and that's the beauty of it. If you're like me, you like surprises. You don't like to know what happens at the end of the book before you read the whole story. I like suspense and spontaneity. I guess that's why I withdrew from school 2 days before I even heard whether or not I got this job, then moved to a city where I knew no one...and wasn't that worried about it. You know why? Because that's life. That's how it's supposed to be. You are never going to know what the future is going to hold. Everything could go really bad, or everything could work out better than you could have ever expected. How else will you know unless you try?

Some people think they have some sort of control or knowledge of what is in the future, but the thing is the future is not certain. That makes us uncomfortable, so we have to piece together these images of what things are going to be like so that we can at least be prepared for whats ahead. We like to be prepared...but in reality, there is now way to definitely prepare us for what is ahead.

Time stops for no one, and you just have to do your best to take life as it comes your way. Sometimes, you'll find success, and other times failure. There's no way to plan everything out for tomorrow, because no one knows what tomorrow will bring! Sometimes, you just have to go for it. Maybe you'll get hurt...or maybe you'll find the best thing in life.

Whatever tomorrow brings, it's going to make you into the person you are supposed to be, even the really crappy stuff. Think about it.
